What Is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a chronic infection of the gums caused by plaque and bacteria buildup. It starts as gingivitis, which causes red, swollen, and bleeding gums. If not addressed, it can progress to periodontitis, which damages the bone and tissues supporting your teeth.
Common signs of gum disease include:
- Bleeding when brushing or flossing
- Swollen or tender gums
- Receding gums or teeth that look longer
- Persistent bad breath
- Loose or shifting teeth
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s time to schedule a periodontal evaluation with our team.
