What Is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a condition that occurs when the muscles in the back of your throat relax too much during sleep, causing your airway to become partially or completely blocked. This causes you to stop breathing temporarily, and sometimes hundreds of times per night, without you even realizing it.
The most common form is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and it often goes undiagnosed because many symptoms happen while you’re asleep. That’s why it’s important to watch for warning signs and get an evaluation if you suspect something’s wrong.
