What Is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a procedure that your dentist or endodontist performs to remove the infected areas of canals within your tooth. In addition to the infection, the dentist must also remove the nerves in the root. Once the damaged tissue is removed, the space is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and filled with a safe material to prevent further issues. The tooth is then sealed and typically restored with a crown to regain full strength and function.
Think of it as a deep cleaning for the inside of your tooth, with the goal of saving it and stopping the pain.
